Dear ChABSA Members and Friends,

Nominations for ChABSA council members for 2026-2027 are now open!

ChABSA’s ability to continue to serve our biosafety committee depends heavily on our engaged, active members. The organization is guided by a dedicated group of volunteers who serve on the ChABSA Council. Council members work together to select technical seminar speakers, organize meetings, conduct the annual scientific symposium, and engage the biosafety community. This year we are looking for individuals willing to serve ChABSA in the following capacities:

ChABSA Offices and Major Responsibilities

President-Elect – This is a 3-year commitment

Year 1 (President Elect) - Chair, Technical Seminars; Order Awards for Symposium; Assist Councilor in 3rd Year
Year 2 (President) – Oversight and outreach; Plans and runs council meetings; creation and oversight of committees
Year 3 (Past President) - Coordinates Vendors/Sponsors for Symposium; Chair, Nominations Committee; Chair, Awards Committee; Marketing Committee

Three Year Councilor – This is a 3-year commitment

Year 1 - Chair, Scientific Program Committee for Symposium; Member, Scientific Symposium Committee
Year 2 - Chair, Scientific Symposium Committee; Assist Councilor in 1st Year
Year 3 - Chair, Pre-Symposium Course Committee; Assist Councilor in 2nd Year

One Year Councilor - This is a 1-year commitment

Voting member of Council; Assist other 3-year Councilors; Engage in existing/proposed/new initiatives based on interest and experience (1-yr commitment)

Treasurer - This is a 2-year commitment

Voting member of Council; Finances, including completing state and Federal tax forms; Monthly Reports to Council; Annual Report for Symposium (2-yr commitment)

If you are willing to dedicate some time and are interested in playing an active role in the future of ChABSA, please volunteer to run for a position. You may also nominate others that you feel would be worthy leaders. The process is easy. All nominees must be current ChABSA members (dues paid) and have a completed online form filled out and submitted to our Nominating Committee Chair, Kerstin Haskell by COB, April 19, 2026. A general election (electronic) will be held in the coming months and the winners will be announced during the Annual Scientific Symposium.
